What Is Eye Care Co-Management?
Eye care co-management is a collaborative approach that brings together your optometrist and, when needed, eye specialists to provide coordinated care for your vision and eye health. Cataract Surgery Co-Management
Cataracts develop gradually as the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy, making everyday activities like reading, driving, and recognizing faces more difficult. While cataract surgery is often the most effective treatment, deciding when surgery is appropriate is an important part of the process.
Our optometrists perform cataract evaluations, monitor changes to your vision, and discuss whether surgery may benefit you. If surgery is recommended, we'll coordinate your referral to a trusted cataract surgeon and continue to care for you throughout your recovery with postoperative evaluations.
LASIK & Refractive Surgery Co-Management
LASIK and other refractive procedures can reduce your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, but not everyone is an ideal candidate. Before recommending surgery, we perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether your eyes, vision, and lifestyle make refractive surgery an appropriate option.
If LASIK is right for you, we'll coordinate your care with a refractive surgeon while continuing to provide your pre-operative evaluations, post-operative care, and long-term eye health monitoring.
Ongoing Care for Eye Conditions
Some eye conditions require more than routine eye exams. They benefit from regular monitoring, coordinated treatment, and, in some cases, the expertise of specialists. Our role is to help you navigate every stage of your care. We work closely with ophthalmologists and other healthcare providers whenever advanced treatment or surgery is appropriate.
Conditions Our Optometrists Co-Manage
We monitor the progression of cataracts and help determine when surgery may become the best option. If surgery is recommended, we'll coordinate your referral and provide pre- and post-operative care.
Glaucoma is a lifelong condition that requires ongoing monitoring. We work closely with glaucoma specialists when necessary while continuing to monitor your eye health and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
Medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and autoimmune diseases can affect your vision and eye health. Through regular monitoring and collaboration with your primary care physician or other specialists, we help detect changes and provide the ongoing care needed to protect your eyesight.
